En gramos, la masa at\u00f3mica del electr\u00f3n ronda los 9,109 x 10-28.<\/p>\n<p>La nueva medida es 13 veces m\u00e1s precisa que la anterior, seg\u00fan publican los autores en la revista Nature. Para obtenerla han utilizado una triple trampa de Penning, un dispositivo donde se estudian part\u00edculas cargadas mediante campos magn\u00e9ticos y el\u00e9ctricos, y la base te\u00f3rica ha sido la electrodin\u00e1mica cu\u00e1ntica.<\/p>\n<p>La masa del electr\u00f3n es una medida clave de la f\u00edsica fundamental, ya que es responsable de la estructura y propiedades de \u00e1tomos y mol\u00e9culas. \u201cEs un par\u00e1metro importante para el modelo est\u00e1ndar de la f\u00edsica (que explica los componentes b\u00e1sicos de la materia y sus interacciones)\u201d, subraya a Sinc Sven Sturm, el primer autor del trabajo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUna manera de buscar nueva f\u00edsica es comparar las predicciones del modelo est\u00e1ndar con resultados experimentales precisos \u2013a\u00f1ade\u2013, y el elemento de uni\u00f3n entre las predicciones y los resultados experimentales son las constantes fundamentales como la masa del electr\u00f3n, por lo que este dato permitir\u00e1 tener una visi\u00f3n mucho m\u00e1s detallada para esa nueva f\u00edsica\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>La unidad de masa at\u00f3mica se define como la doceava parte de la masa de un \u00e1tomo de carbono-12. Para la part\u00edcula del estudio, los investigadores la han calculado al medir un solo electr\u00f3n unido a un ion de referencia (un n\u00facleo de carbono desnudo) de masa at\u00f3mica conocida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl nuevo valor para la masa at\u00f3mica del electr\u00f3n es un eslab\u00f3n en una cadena de medidas que permitir\u00e1 hacer un test del modelo est\u00e1ndar de la f\u00edsica de part\u00edculas con una precisi\u00f3n superior a una parte por trill\u00f3n, adem\u00e1s del impacto que tiene en los datos de otras constantes fundamentales\u201d, destaca tambi\u00e9n en Nature el investigador Edmund G.
